Text Changes Do Not Get Saved 2 Months ago
I'm having an issue with my text changes. I login and make the necessary text changes I want, then save the data. But when I log out the changes don't appear or the text appears briefly and then disappears. I know my text changes are being saved because I have opened the dataFile.xml file and see them there. I'm just kind of baffled on why they don't show up!

Please help!

Cheers,

Each Editblock needs an editblockID. This can be achieved on one of two ways.

1. Give each Editblock an editblockID through the component inspector.
2. Or the editblockID will be created for you from the path to the Object that has the Editblock attached to it. If you take this route then make sure that each Object, that has an Editblock attached to it, has an instance name. Also make sure that each movie clip in the path to each Object also has an instance name. So for example if you have an Editblock attached to a text field and that text field is in a movie clip then make sure that both the movie clip and the text field both have instance names. If you have not entered an Editblock's editblockID then the entire path needs to be named because it will become the editblockID.

What is a good example for an editblockID? I put my instance name in there and it doesn't seem to work. Being mostly a designer and less on the programming side of things... do you have something I can look at to reference?

Thanks for your help!

Please send a link to your site and I will look at your data file and let you know.

As a designer you do not need to know this but technically, the editblockID simply links data in the data file to the correct object in your fla. The editblockID is usually created from the path to the object that the Editblock is attached to. So if you have a text field with the instance name "myText", inside of a movie clip with an instance name "myMovie" then the editblockID will become myText_myMovie. If you do not give the movie clip an instance name that Flash will create a random one for you. As a result the data becomes orphaned.

The site is
Do you need my user & password?
The only thing that I have the Flashblocks working/testing on is the bio page under the About link.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks so much for the help!

After looking at your site, I see that you need to give the movie clip that contains the text field an instance name.
