File permissions trouble (seemingly unsolvable) 7 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi there,

sorry to bother, but I need this site to be editable, preferable as soon as possible, but I keep getting this error with file permissions. Any ideas?

http://www.soliderecht.nl/

user : solide
pass : wachtwoord

I even tried giving every single file and folder 777 permission, but it didn't help.

Hope you can help out,

kind regards,

Menno van Wees

I would like to debug this on the server. Could you please send me ftp information via the flashblocks.com contact form.

In some rare cases, on some servers, uploading via Flash will not work. I have implemented the alternate upload script and all is working now. You will now see a small html popup window when you select upload from the file manager.

I sincerely thank you for your work and trouble, and again, it may be my ignorence, but I'd like to be able to edit some of the text areas, that's all, but when editing the text, after loggin in, I can't save the data, get the error with file permissions. Am I missing something?

Kind regards

Menno

Keep getting this:

Tried it with Safari and Firefox with clean browser-cashes.
Tried setting all file permissions to 777, have contacted the hosting-service but they say they don't have experience with it :P.
Hope we'll find some way of fixing it.

I have been trying to fix this on your server without any luck. It appears that any attempt to save from Flashblocks returns the server 500 error. This is very strange because logging in, resizing and all file manager functions are working. Can you ask your hosting provider to tell me where the error logs are kept? I will need to dig a little deeper.

Thanks again for the effort and sorry for the trouble. I've mailed the hosting provider with your question and mentioned this threat so he or she can read this conversation. I'll let you know if I get word from them.

Have a nice day!

A certain 'Jim' from WebReus mentioned the following: (translated to english)

"
The error logs are available via PLESK.
You can get there via the button 'logmanager'.
"

I assume he means via the http://www.webreus.nl/ site.

I found the problem. Your server has limited the amount of data that can be sent to php via post. I basically deleted the dataFile.xml file and now data saves fine. Depending how much data you end up needing to store in your data file, you will need to ask your hosting provider to up the amount of text that can be sent to php via post. I am pretty sure they can easily fix this for you. If they can not change this setting for you then you can always split the data up into multiple data files. Remember each Flashblocks component is responsible for a data file.

By they way, your server is setup in such a way that you do not need to set any file dir permissions at all. Flashblocks will work immediately after uploading.

Cool, I'm real glad you've found the problem. I'm gonna contact the provider if I'm having trouble uploading things.

However, the most important thing for this website owner is to modify the text area's. When I login and go to the text editor to modify a text, I can't type. No letters appear.

I've changed the height of the html editor and replaced all 'Arial' words with 'Verdana'.

Truly sorry to be so much of a pain in the bum but this needs to be operative for the website-owner.

Btw, I assumed the dataFile.xml is where the text of the site was stored. If that file is now gone, can texts be stored?
